2017 ARRL 10 Meter Contest

12/15/2017 | OA4SS

Conditions to the northern hemisphere were terrible from Peru but relatively good to most of South America.  I later learned, via email, that I was heard in Australia.  I entered the mixed, high power, single operator category. I was only able to make 174 contacts, only 15 of which were on SSB.  All 15 were in South America, Central America or the Caribbean.  But there were a few pleasant surprises on CW.  For example, only one station from Europe was heard and it was very loud: OQ4U. Right after I worked Marc, he disappeared into the background noise.  My CW contacts with stations in the USA showed a "footprint" type of propagation, mostly somewhere along the east coast or along the Gulf Coast. I did manage to work 24 states, all on CW.  There were no Canadians or Mexicans at any time.  The last station who called me was Marv, N5AW.  Two years ago he brought me some connecting cables and helped me connect my Kenwood TS-480 to my computer.  It sure is a small world!
