2018 ARRL June VHF Contest
It was a Great Contest! My lovely wife bought me a new radio after sending my aging rover radio in for repair three time is 18 months. Murphy was with me, had the wrong microphone port configured so no audio out for the first two hours, finaly rescued by KA5D/R, who has the same radio, 5 minutes of trouble shooting before Murphy had left the building (rover).... No opennings on Saturday for my part of STX, but there were on Sunday, bad timing to be on the highway driving instead of working the radio! Challenges of safety vs radio contacts as a solo driver/rover and paper logging. Had a 10k increase over last year so very happy with the score and trip. Missed a few regulars on the bands this year that would have boosted the score event more!. Only 4 encounters wtih deer on the road which is a good reminder to watch the road vs the radio. After this trip my lovely bride may be my driver for September. Thanks for working me, FT8 has some challenges with rover calls so hopefully that will be fixed, SSB was much more time efficient, but there were some multipliers to be had via FT8, but it was too much work to do while driving, and when parked it was too inefficient for time and contacts.
