2018 ARRL Field Day
The North Shore Radio Club once again had a fun Field Day weekend. This is our club's most popular event and we had over half of our 200 members participating. We were a little nervous initially because there was almost a week of heavy rain in the area leading up to the Field Day weekend, but the weather on Saturday and Sunday was beautiful, sunny and mid-70s. We operated as a 3A class with a GOTA station again this year. The 3A consisted of two CW and one SSB station, all using Elecraft K3 radios and single band dipoles. Our location was in an open park in Lake Forest, IL, about 25 miles north of Chicago. Band conditions seemed pretty flat on 40 and 20 compared to last year, but there were some nice opening spurts off and on Saturday and on Sunday morning 15 opened up nicely providing us some very nice point runs. Our GOTA station (WM9Q) seemed to have a good amount of activity this year. All in all, I expect our total point score will be down a bit from last year, but we are all already looking forward to next year.
