My third or fourth SKN.. good fun though the 40m band was not in good shape on NYE. Logged seven QSO's all on 40m using a Collins S line and a GHD cootie key. Also used a J-37 (painfully) on one contact.

This is the 1st ARRL event I've actually participated in. Contesting does not really appeal to me but the relaxing tone of this event encouraged me to participate. I used a J-38 that was made by Lionel Toy Train Company in WW2. The key was my father's ... Read More

My first SKN operation was 2008. During the 4 hours I operated, I had several great ragchew QSO's. I only made 6 contacts during the 4 hour period, but "copied the mail" on several other QSO's. The bands seemed to be filled with "CQ SKN's" from one ... Read More

Strait Key Night was a blast again this year. I made 10 QSO's, all nice 20+ minute rag chews. I ran my Heathkit DX-60 xmitter at 35 watts and Icom 720a rx to a dipole.I also picked up about 5 new SKCC numbers one of which was a local friend. I was on t... Read More

Well, that was a hoot. I operated with a 1 watt QRP rig and that made it a little harder, but I still made over a dozen QSOs without really trying too hard. It was fun to hear all the straight keys at work, and some very good fists. The relaxed and e... Read More
