  • Me in 1999 stopped at an IHOP on the way to the Miami Hamfest.

Next time give FM a try. Down here in South Florida I had 16 contacts on two Meters. Out of those, 9 were FM and only 7 were SSB. All 4 of my contacts on 432 were also FM, 3 on 446.000 and one on 432.800. This is in addition to 45 QSO's on 6 Meter ... Read More

I've not been active on "the world above 50 MHz" for a number of years, but caught the bug again. Having picked up a TS-2000 early in 2007, I was on the beginning steps of the journey to becoming more active. That all came to fruition last July when ... Read More

  • Operating Bench at KA5BOU

The bands were dismal. Thanks goodness for the rovers! N5AC/R and WD0ACD/R at least made things interesting as I kept track of them from grid-to-grid and worked them on as many bands as we could make work. Hats off to both for braving the unusually ... Read More

  • The 99% unautomated K2DRH shack.

    01/21/2008 | K2DRH

This was the coldest January VHF test I can remember, with temperatures well into the minus digits at night and mostly single digits during the days. Propagation indicators were dismal and the cold brought out noise sources Ive never even heard before... Read More

  • Here is my QRP portable setup from a hill in FN30 on Sunday. I had a three-element Six Meter Yagi that was up 10 feet only because of the wind, a three-element Two Meter Yagi that was on a telescope tripod on the car roof and a 1/4 wave mag-mount vertical on the car roof for 220 MHz.

As I have done for the past ten years, I operated as QRP portable from a hill in Long Island in Grid FN30 for the January VHF contest.

It was nice that the temperature was moderate for this time of year at 35 degrees F. And it was even nicer that when... Read More

Conditions were the typical "flat" January conditions, however the cold, dry, windy weather just aggrevated the power line noise in my area making hearing weak ones difficult. The activity level was low from my perspective. I worked 4 more grids than... Read More

  • radios setup on Mt. Disappointment, the background is goverment towers

    01/21/2008 | KQ6EE

Kq6ee was on the top of Mt. Disappointment (5500+') in Los Angeles basin on both Sat. and Sunday. I hadn't did any contest for a while because of the family and school. It is excited to do it again. It was windy on Sunday. The weather was so good (... Read More

VHF band conditions could not have been worse for the contest. No E's or Ground Wave openings for me in Northeast Ohio. I did manage to triple my contacts from last year, but that's only because I added stacked KU4AB SQ50s and a TS-2000 running 100 wat... Read More
