Northern New York Voluntary Communications Emergency Declared,
Frequencies Set Aside for Emergency Traffic.

In connection with the ice storm relief effort in northern New York,
the FCC has requested all amateurs ''to cooperate by recognizing the
existence of a voluntary communications emergency and therefore
relinquishing the use of frequencies between 145.100 MHz to 145.120
MHz, 147.140 MHz to 147.160 MHz and 147.275 MHz to 147.295 MHz (for)
handling of emergency traffic only.'' The FCC District Director for
New York declared the voluntary communications emergency in a
January 14 letter to ARRL Northern New York Section Emergency
Coordinator Darry Roberts, WN2F.
