The great central California weather and my operating location made this September's contest very enjoyable, despite some equipment failures.

My plan was to operate two bands, 144Mhz and 1296MHz from the Satellite Amateur Radio Club site on Vandenberg ... Read More

One of the most enjoyable roves I have had as I limited myself to 4 grids due to previous weekend commitments. The regional area was buzzing with rovers, and it seems like all of us had successful outings, as I had plenty rover calls in my log.

A portable five band expedition to EM 47 was planned for the contest. Everything was packed and ready to go.

  • In this photo, you can see the three-element Two Meter Yagi on my car roof in the middle and the three-element Six Meter beam on the left. You can see the really thick fog-like air in the background, shading the monument. I believe that the weather conditions put a damper on band conditions.

I had limited time for the contest this year with a wedding during the day on Saturday and several errands on Sunday. No matter as it seems like conditions were very poor this year on all of the bands! I was able to operate Saturday evening from a hi... Read More

  • New array on 180 foot SSV tower.

    09/08/2008 | K3TUF

I was not able to get on for much of the contest, and the new tower is not complete. Spent time working on the tower.
Hopefully when all of the work is done we'll finally be above the trees with 903-24g.
September will have 903-3456 on the new tower, ... Read More

  • Working KM0T (EN13vc) from EN44ad at 362 km. The dish on the far right is 6 watts on 10GHz, the middle dish is 2 watts on 5.7 GHz. These two systems share the same 2m IF rig that is mounted on the 10 GHz tripod along with a A/B coax switch to switch between the two. Note the BIG corn.

Last years UHF contest was wet and cold, I lost my keyer to water shorting it out, and I ran with the car heater turned on for most of the time. And oh ya, propagation, well, it was a challenge. What a difference a year makes ! This year, although ... Read More

The August UHF contest was just a baseline from this new QTH. A long extension cord, antennas on the 2nd floor and a leaky roof made it tough to put in a substantial effort. Most of the cabling needed for 903/2/3/5/10GHz never surfaced from the rubbl... Read More
