  • J.H. Bunnell #7939. A gift from my mother upon passing my Novice in 1978.

I've been a ham since 1978 and had never worked SKN. What a great time I've missed! 40m late at night reminded me of what the Novice bands used to sound like. It was just wonderful.

I used my Elecraft K1 running 5 Watts to a 40m dipole. My key is a... Read More

  • SKN station setup for W1TS. You have to have a VERY understanding XYL to be able to use the dresser in the spare bedroom for your operating position. Just place a 1'X 5' pine board over the 3 upper opened drawers and you are ready for SKN! P.S. Don't scratch the furniture!

SKN has become part of my New Year's Eve tradition for many years now and I eagerly look forward to firing up one of my several vintage rigs with which to participate. This year it was the Heathkit DX-60-B and HG-10B VFO with a Collins 75A-3 in the bed... Read More

I think it's time to let everyone in on a little secret about why we at K6KPH participate in SKN each year. Sure, we love Morse code and we enjoy the opportunity to work a lot of stations, especially in the late evening hours when K6KPH is not normall... Read More

  • Even these crystals weren't enough for crowded conditions on 40M New Years Eve

    01/04/2010 | WD6DBM

I had a blast in the 2010 SKN as always! I had hoped to be on the air with a 6L6 TX and my just-restored Hallicrafters SX-140 RX but I didn't make it. Instead I used one of my HW-16s, this one built and highly modified by my elmer W5NYT. It features... Read More
