  • So, what does one do when their laptop power supply generates about S8/9 noise all by its little self? Why, put it in a Faraday Cage, of course! Between that and the toroids (which initially didn't quite do the trick) it's now quiet as a mouse.

With the help of my lovely bride Shirley we put up the temporary 40/20 meter antennas at our place in Rhode Island. The feedpoint is at about 26 feet.

With the assistance of the LDG AT-100Pro antenna tuner I managed to trick my FT-897D into loading ... Read More

As always - the ultimate goal is the clean sweep, but alas missed it again this time. Being only my third excursion into the CW portion, my goals were not as lofty (aside from trying for the sweep!). My best year was 2006, when I worked 114 Qs, 66 se... Read More

I worked my first ever SSCW. It was almost as much fun as Field Day. In fact, it's a good warmup, as it involved only ARRL Sections.

I used an AP8A vertical elevated with 8 elevated radials, 4 for 20M and 4 for 40M. Not the best setup, but it was re... Read More

This year I did things a little differently. My first SS was 1968, when I made 81 QSOs.

This year I had the loan of a Kenwood TS-940SAT (quite a change from my 1968 DX-20/VF-1, thank you, W3RV), so I built a keying interface, pulled a Win98 PC off the... Read More

A great contest. The first time I've had the rig on 2 years...Its just like riding a bike. You never forget how. Couldn't quite get the 75 sections, only 69 but had no problem gettng the QRP signal thru for over 200 QSO's. First time daylight savings ch... Read More

The Scout's Jamboree On The Air was a great success and we had a large turnout. The youngest ham in the state of North Carolina, KJ4EDF Cameron Hasson, came all the way from Gastonia to be with us. Cameron is 7 years old. KJ4EDF Cameron will appear on ... Read More
