  • "Key and Plug Assembly No 9" J-37 Key

Once again SKN was a fun event. I know that my Great Uncle, Sammie Miller (W3CP-sk) was smiling from heaven since I was using his key once again for the SKN. I inherited his "Key and Plug Assembly No 9" J37 key. This key was part of a radio set that ... Read More

Lots of fun from up here at 64N in the Canadian Arctic. I could
    hear lots on 40 m and 20 m, and some on 30 m. Managed a few contacts
from here from under the Aurora. The longest was 3360 klicks from
    here to AZ.

I have participated in SKN several times in the past making a few contacts each time. This year I made 16 contacts in 12 states on 80, 40 and 20 meters. Most were of the rag chew variety and very interesting.
The bands were so crowded I had to abandon... Read More

I always think of Straight Key Night as an 80 meter event. I guess
that's because I spent most of my straight key days as a Novice back
in 1972 calling CQ de WN9IUQ on that band.

For this year's event, I dug out my old Novice key and tuned the rig

Its now a tradition for me to work SKN to start the year off right. In my 29 years of hamming, Ive worked many modes from SSB to High Speed Meteor Scatter but the plan ole CW has a charm that cannot be beat.

Ive also joined the Straight Key Century Cl... Read More

SKN began rather auspiciously (try to send that word with a straight key!)when I could hear so many stations chirping away with their very distinctive sounding straight keys. The cadence was certainly slower than usual; it sort of reminded me of Navy ... Read More

Been ham for 25 years but was off the air for the past ten years. Just got back on the air this past February.

When coming back I decided to work only CW on HF.

This was my first SKN and really enjoyed the tremendous number of stations on the air.

  • Keys used at KA4JQZ 2007 SKN

    01/02/2007 | KA4JQZ

As always SKN was a lot of fun. I used my old TS-830S for most of my contacts but was able to use my Novice Station (Heathkit HW-16) for one contact. I used a few straight keys. A J-38, LTA SKCC (#19), Mac Key and my favorite, a Signal Electric Spark G... Read More
