Surfin’: Looking for Cosmophone

12/28/2012

This week, Surfin’ revisits RigReference, RigPix, and Flickr and finds more radio photos (but none of Cosmophone).

Elmer Torensma, PH5E, is the ham behind RigReference.com, which I wrote about here two weeks ago. Elmer e-mailed me to mention something I missed in my write-up about RigReference: a nifty little feature of the website called “collections.” When users register an account (for free), they can create their own collection. For an example, just click on the “Collection” tab on Elmer’s profile page.

A few people wrote to tell me that that I missed another website similar to RigReference.com: The RigPix Database of Janne Andersson, SM0OFV. I have mentioned The RigPix Database here in the past, but it is worth mentioning again. Like RigReference.com, RigPix has an image of the radio and lists some of the technical specifications of the radio.

If you are looking for photos of radios (or anything else), another excellent source is Flickr, the popular photo-hosting website. Use the Flickr search feature to find the radio you seek and Flickr quickly displays the results. For example, my search for “Hallicrafters” turned up 767 images and a Flickr Hallicrafters group. On the other hand, my search for the “Cosmophone” ham transceiver came up empty!

Until next time, keep on surfin’!
