The ARES E-Letter is an e-mail digest of news and information of interest to active members of the ARRL Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and to hams concerned with public service and emergency communications.

To subscribe, unsubscribe or change your address for e-mail delivery:

ARRL members first must register on the Members Only Web Site, http://www.arrl.org/members/. You'll have an opportunity during registration to sign up for e-mail delivery of the The ARES E-Letter, W1AW bulletins, and other material.

ARRL members may subscribe to The ARES E-Letter by going to the Member Data Page at:

Plain-Text Version of the The ARES E-Letter

The The ARES E-Letter e-mail is formatted with both HTML (rich text) and plain-text versions. Most e-mail reading programs provide some means of accessing the plain-text version if you want it. Here are some techniques to use:

Outlook Express

  1. From the Inbox view, select the Tools menu and the Options selection.
  2. Click the Read tab
  3. Check the Read All Messages In Plain Text box

When you open the email, it will be in plain text without images. Other email programs may be able to make a Mail Rule for email received from the address memberlist@www.arrl.org so that the plain-text-only display is selected automagically.

Outlook 2007

Use the same procedure as for Outlook Express, although the global option is under "Tools/Trust Center/E-mail Security".

Thunderbird

Use the menu item "View/Message Body As/Plain Text" or "View/Message Source" options.

OS X Mail (Macintosh)

Use the "View/Message/Plain Text Alternative" menu item.

GMail

Use the "Message text garbled?" link in the drop-down menu at the upper right of the displayed message block.

pine, alpine

Set "prefer-plain-text" in your ~/.pinerc configuration file:
