ECTAR is a public service, training, and fun ham radio organization partnered with the KM0OSE Alert Center in Monterey California. ECTAR conducts monthly meetings, monthly pizza bashes, training, VE sessions, operations, community event support, operating demonstrations, special operations at area venues and museums, workshops, equipment building, mentoring, and runs the Monterey Moose Alert Center EOC at the Moose Lodge. Published since 1992, "Rick's Notes" focuses on ECTAR activities, events, and training.
We also run fun and training activities such as geocaching outings, BBQs, antenna building workshops, and more. ECTAR maintains and uses our mobile communications van built from a converted military communications shelter. We have acted as the local EOC when the Seaside facility was down for several months.
ECTAR is rebuilding its repeater system, due to be running again at an improved, permanent site after summer 2017. ECTAR was an early pioneer in fielding event support and emergency operations APRS tracking systems. We have retired the LOPAT systems and currently field our MIDPAT and HIPAT tracking systems for events, training, and emergency operations. Our research and development and technology innovation committees continue to explore new ways to use new and old modes and technologies in exciting ways.
