Description:

 New Ham Development and Training – The Hoodview ARC sponsors and provides Amateur Radio training class instructors for Technician, General and Extra class licensing. We also provide accredited Volunteer Examiners to administer FCC licensing exams. All new hams that successfully pass their license exam receive a one-year Hoodview ARC membership.

Public Relations – The Hoodview ARC club provides public outreach, volunteer radio communicators and logistic support for local public events and support other radio clubs radio communications events in the Portland Metro area.

Emergency Communications – Numerous Hoodview ARC members are active Multnomah County ARES members, holding both basic and advanced FEMA Emergency Management Institute Certifications, including ARRL ARECC Level 1 & 2 Courses and local government training certifications. Conduct monthly Simplex net to ensure members are familiar with simplex operations.

Technical Advancement – The Hoodview ARC sponsors a 2 Meter and 70 cm open repeaters that are maintained by club members, provided pre-COVID monthly technical workshops on Digital Mobile Radio (DMR), hotspots, other digital land mobile modes and microwave systems, post-COVID Amateur Radio presentations/webinars to promote Amateur Radio and advanced technologies for both club and non-club members.

Operating Activities – The Hoodview ARC operates a weekly net, participates in regular public communications events and contests, monthly FEMA Region 10 HF communications exercises and the yearly ARRL Field Day.

Miscellaneous Activities – The Hoodview ARC supports our local hospital (Mount Hood Medical Center) with trained disaster emergency communicators and engineering support of the hospital Amateur Radio emergency radio station for both voice and Winlink communications. Our local members also provide radio communicators for the City of Gresham’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
