CWSS was fun. QRP sure works great when the traffic is that hot!
de John W9ISC
After many years of SS at the "A" level, decided to try QRP with my Elecraft K2. Antenna is an 80/40 inverted V with homebrew traps and the apex at 35 feet. I'm amazed at the results given the time and setup!
Biggest thrill was working VY1JA - first YU/NWT in over 30 years of trying! Musta been "mojo"!
No computer used - in fact, not even a memory keyer. Op was powered by homemade anchovy pizza, a la Grommethead Schultz.
Wait till next year!
In recent CW SS outings K0WA AB0S and K0BJ have operated from W0CEM's QTH in Junction City KS. John is now a Phoenix snowbird, and we've happily found Alan W0NO's new rural Beloit (north-central KS) station to be a great venue for our SS adventures. We had the usual great fun with the contest and grabbing a sweep fairly early. Kinda chagrined with our high bust rate; we'd like to blame it on Alan's cattle QRMing the headphones but that'd be stretching the truth......
This was my first ever contest on CW, and once I got used to it, I really enjoyed myself. What a wonderful experience. I'll do it again next November!
Rig is a Heathkit SB-301/401 and 40M dipole 20' up
This was my first SS after moving from WV to PA a few years ago and losing my antenna farm. It was great to participate again even though my time was limited.
One of the best SS ever!
GO SMC!
Not bad, considering I had a triple bypass operation 3 weeks ago! Equipment: ICOM 706MKIIG, HF-9V vertical, 40/80 dipoles up 20'
So close (to the sweep), and so far away... I know the Maritimes are beautiful in fall, but you'd think *someone* would have gone inside & got on the radio <grin>!
