    Comments:

We did a bit better than last year. This year we were able to operate the whole 24 hours. We got a new 756POII on Friday night to replace the 775DSP but decide that we would use the IC-756 which we already knew how to operate and was setup with narrow CW filter for RTTY. It is hooked to a AL-82 and we ran about 1200 watts.

So the New 756PROII and Henry 4K sat unused at the other position. It didnt seem to matter. Our best was on 80 meters from 0300Z to 0700Z (3hours) running on the same freq. And then to get the European opening, 1400Z to 1600Z running on 14103MHZ. Multipliers are hard to come by in this contest.

Writelog, MMTTY and the computer all ran without any problems. Did lose the 40 meter beam on Saturday evening and had to use the dipole.

Thanks for all that worked the 'BEARS'

    Joe K0BX and George AB0RX for W0MA -- K0BX

    K0HW -- Jan 19, 2005 17:45 ET

This was my first entry in this contest as a single op. I had worked with the W0SD crew in 2002 and 2003. It was those sessions that introduced me to Writelog and the RTTY Roundup. I got the bug and have been into this contest stuff since, I had only played around in SS, FD and some state QSO Parties before 2002. I changed my call in 2002 from WA0ARZ to K0HW because I thought it would be a better contest call. It is much better except in all the contests that W0HW is in it really gets them thinking when they get a MN from W0HW and a SD from K0HW.

I tried a operating plan for times and where I wanted to operate. It needs major tweeking. I thought I would start on 10 Meters because it had to be as good as it was in the ARRL 10 Meter Contest in December. It was but no one else started there. I will give it 10 minutes next time instead of an hour!

I am sure glad we have programs now that make these RTTY contests easier than using paper tapes and a Model 28ASR. Imagine what we would feel like after 24 hours of old TTY work.

The bands were all in good shape, I went high power but most of the time while in S&P mode I was low power. There were a lot of EU stations on 40 with really strong signals. I never heard a NE, VT or ND. I sure hope the rest of you found them.

Imagine what it was like before I found contesting I would have spent the weekend on the couch watching the NFL WildCard games!!! -- K0HW

    OO4ADZ -- Jan 16, 2005 05:31 ET

After the newyear with good intentions we entered this contest for tho say "hny" to the fellow rtty ers and to play with my station to extent my contest experiences. I was not able to run a 24 hour period, I was restriced to abt 8 with good qso rates. I missed the 40 and 80m sunrise/sunset hours but I managed to many get nice EU multipliers on those bands: GI, GU,GW,LA, EI, LX,.... Normally at noon I turn my beam ,via the south, to pick up some African multi's, to the west and I was ready for a huge USA/VE <> EU game but it never happend !! 15 m was not alive. This time 20 m was the place to be, and I got a pipeline to W6,VE7 area's.

    Thanks for the qso 's 73 DIRK ON4ADZ -- ON4ADZ

    OO4ADZ -- Jan 15, 2005 09:55 ET

I ran this contest on a limited time effort but I managed to have good rates. I think that the OO4 prefix added some punch to my signal. The condx on 15 m where not good, but I had a pipeline on 20 m to the West Coast.

I was not qrv during our sunrise/sunset hours due to other occupations and have not worked the states or Cananda, but I was collecting EU multipliers on 40 and 80 as ever.

Although my limited time and awfull condx I had a good time.

    WA0WIK -- Jan 14, 2005 18:03 ET

    WAØWIK and Operator

    WAØWIK - Station

This is my seventh RTTY Roundup to date. I enjoy the hunt even though I know I'll never take top honors. Everyone who operates in this contest is the best of what Amateur Radio is about. I enjoy the short greetings from other operators you get when you know each other. Although the propagation left something to be desired this year the "TEST" was a good one. I operated RTTY back in the late 60's with an old Mod 28 teletype machine and homebrewed equipment from the ARRL handbook. I still miss the smell of TTY oil, the noise, and the glow of tubes however. My station consists of an FT-1000D, Kam+ TNC, a VL-1000 amplifier (run at 150 watts to allow the ol FT-1000 to stay cool), and a Carolina Windom 80 up 50 feet. I use PacTerm 98 for TNC control and Win-EQF logging software. It's a modest station but will log 'em if I can hear 'em. I use a homebrew computer which is built the way I need it to be. I'm using Win XP Pro SP2 for the operating system. Sure would like to see a ND station during the contest. I can never seem to find North Dakota. Maine would be nice too. One of my ham buddies (KC0JAB) came over during the contest and I showed him what contesting was all about. Hopefully, I can get him on the air (so I can get an easy MO mult.) on RTTY. Hey! mults are hard to find sometimes!! All in all, a great time. Thanks to all the ops for the contacts and multipliers. 73's Mark R. Henry WAØWIK -- WA0WIK

    IV3IPS -- Jan 14, 2005 12:51 ET

It is my first participation to the Round-Up. For engagements taken previously I have been able to only participate for 12 hours approximately but a lot is amused me. It compliments to the ARRL for the perfect organization............. really nice contest !

Thanks to everybody and good bye to the next year!

    73 de Stefano, IV3IPS. -- IV3IPS

    N7MQ -- Jan 16, 2005 22:18 ET

I was only able to operate for just under 10 hours, but had a great time. Newish to RTTY and each contest has one goal, to make more QSO's than prior outing in the same contest, and to spend most of my time running. Rely heavily on suggestions from web site of AA5AU and tips from GU0SUP. Have improved my antennas to include a SteppIR Big Vert on 40 and that antenna really works! Others are Lightning Bolt 2 element quad and 80 meter Gladiator vertical. RTTY contesting really sings! -- N7MQ
