I have an FT-991. I have a straight key. The input/output stuff in back of unit doesn't give me clue on how to return di-das...Can I plug in mono straight key plug into MIC located in front of 991? What is impedance of typical MIC -- 8 ohms? What makes me nervous is that when you depress the key it is a direct short on the input MIC electronics. Thanks.

Page 20 of the instruction manual says to use a stereo plug. It has a picture showing where the wires go. It goes into a jack on the front panel labeled KEY.

Thank you. The key is just below the on/off button.
