Temporarily without a HF antenna. So just for laughs I tuned up on 80 and 40 on my dual band 2M and 70cm J pole. Both tuned to low SWR's and both had good power output. Big Dummy load? Antenna and Operator?

You were probably loading the coax feedline, as no VHF/UHF J-pole will work worth a darn on HF.

Did you make any contacts? Does the coax get warm?

Can you give us more detalis of your setup? I assume that you are using a tunner. How do you have it connected to the coax? How long is your coax? What are you uning for a ground?

Loading into an off-band antenna can sometimes result in a low SWR, but in some cases, at higher power, sometimes the antenna could suffer damage. I'd try it at QRP levels, but even at 100 watts, you could cause damage to the antenna.
