10 meter ssb question

As a Technician can I use both USB and LSB SSB on 10 meters? |

Yes, you can use either USB or LSB. However, you will not make many contacts using LSB. Even though it is legal for you to do so, using LSB will draw attention from seasoned operators and you may be accused of being a non-ham since LSB is used predominantly on the Citizens Band. You will notice that on160, 80 and 40 meters, LSB is mostly used and on the higher frequency bands, USB is used. This is a leftover from the early days of SSB when radios were designed a certain way, when SSB was in its infancy. Operating habits will not likely change in the future. Thank you very much. I am considering a 10 m rig that has usb only and wanted to know if that would restrict my usage. john kk4dmt |

Unless your finances are such that a 10m only radio is all you can afford, you might want to consider an all-band amateur rig instead. Unless and until the solar cycle improves a lot more, 10m will be an exercise in frustration. Upgrading to General and getting on the other bands will keep you interested in amateur radio.
