Is there any progress on changing the CW DXCC Start Date to November 15, 1945 to align it with all the other DXCC Awards? The current Start Date for CW DXCC is January 1, 1975.

Jim,

Curious what you mean by "is there any progress" ? What activity were you referring to that might be "progressing"?

The CW DXCC award began in 1975. All contacts made prior count only towards the mixed DXCC award. I'm not aware of any initiative to change that.

Bob - Thanks for your response. My question was a result of a discussion at the DX Forum at the Visalia DX Convention last May on this subject between Wayne, N7NG, and Bart, W9JJ.

Yes, I'm aware that CW DXCC credits prior to 1975 count for the Mixed DXCC Award, and they also count for the Single Band DXCC, 5BDXCC, and DXCC Challenge. The only award they don't count for is CW DXCC because of the 1/1/1975 starting date.

I would also note that DXCC Awards added since 1975 (Single Band and DXCC Challenge) all revert to the 1945 starting date, even for the WARC Bands which became available to us in the 1970's and 1980's.

So my question is, why is the CW DXCC unique with the 1975 starting date and is there any interest in aligning it with all the other DXCC Awards?

Jim,

I have researched the beginning of the CW DXCC Award and there is nothing in the documentation here that I have access to at this time that spells out the reasoning behind the date as it was chosen.
I recall that there was commentary about it at the time, but I apologize that I don't recall what the reasoning was. I'm going to continue my quest to find out, and I'll post here anything I do find. I had not yet earned DXCC at that time so I was not as "tuned in" about this as I wish I was!
