I am a newly licensed HAM I am active on MARS through work. For personal use I would like to set up a mobil unit in my JEEP. I have an antenna and mount (Chameleon VI). I would like to find the best mobile radio for mounting. My budget is $600-1000 for both radio and power supply. Any suggestions?
I would like HF/UHF/VHF if that is not too much to ask in my price range.

Wilson,
I have a an IC7000 which I purchased used with the AT 7000 autotuner in 2009 for $1000. Since 2009 I've worked over 100 countries in SSB and Digital modes from home. I am preparing to move it to my car so I can take the car down to Galveston and work DX.

If you are serious about HF Contesting, I suggest you upgrade your license to General as opportunities for contesting on HF are limited for Technician class licensees.
