50 years ago, due to circumstances I had to learned morse code visually and I now suffer from this double translation problem and it is keeping me from getting involved with cw. Any idea's, techniques or methods to help me over come this problem will be appreciated.

I'd suggest learning CW at a speed high enough that you can't discern the individual dots and dashes.

Also, try just listening to code transmissions without trying to write it down. For the typical fast QSO, I just jot down the important stuff - name, QTH, report, etc. The main thing is to focus on the sounds - at first the characters, then simple words, then phrases, etc.

Easier said than done, I know!
