My family had Dish, but we didn't like it, so we switched to something else. Dish never wanted their antenna back though... So what do I do with it? My dad wants to throw it away, but my creative teenage brain tells me I can do something with it somehow. I have a limited budget, and a grandfather who will help. What can I do with the Dish dish? What would be the best, easiest to use or most workable or easiest to use? How would I do it and what would I need? |

http://www.w1ghz.org/10g/antennas.htm Paul W1GHZ has an online antenna book that tells you how to use a DSS dish on 10GHz. You could boost the range of a simple Gunn diode transceiver with a dish antenna. Zack W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |

Is there any creative way to use a Dish antenna as the basis for an HF antenna? Developments with CC&Rs must allow satellite tv antennas by federal law, so I am wondering if anyone has tried using the framework of the Dish antenna as the basis for, say, a spiral-wound long wire stealth antenna. |

The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005 is more useful--just put a reasonable display of the American Flag with a aluminum flagpole and use that as an antenna. Zack Lau W1VT ARRLSenior Lab Engineer |

I recall an article about cutting a slot into a satellite dish as a disguise antenna for VHF/UHF use in HOA situations. I believe it's called a "slot antenna", and is apparently very successful. --Ron. KA5ITO |
