| smart meters | K1SCE | on 1/10/12 |
| At this point, we don't have any reports involving these low-frequency meters. More than likely, there is going to be sufficient filtering, as the 12.5 kHz signal needs to be pretty clean or it couldn't be used to transmit data. Please do keep me posted if you have any interference from these devices, as yours is the first report we've received regarding this particular smart-grid technology. Ed Hare, W1RFI@arrl.org. |

| MFJ 1717 rubber duck antenna question | KI5SF | on 9/11/11 |
| If you can, get much closer to the repeater and see if you can hit it. If not, then you may have a programming problem with the radio. The antenna may be inefficient on that band, but getting close would solve that problem. If you can see the repeater tower and can't hit it, something other than the antenna is wrong. 73. | 1 Farad Capacitor to Eliminate Headlight Flicker? | W1VT | on 9/11/11 |
| K0BG is a bit shy, it seems, so I'll post it for him. The site at http://www.k0bg.com is an absolute treasure of information about mobile operation. It's well worth the read. Alan, feel free to add your URL as a sig block to any posts that you make about mobile operation and/or to refer members to your site! 73, Ed Hare, W1RFI |

| Open letter to manufacturers | KB0HAE | on 9/11/11 |
| I'd like to move this one to the Technical Discussions area. Anyone mind? Normally, I just move posts to better forum areas, but in this case, I didn't want anyone to assume that it was deleted because the letter is somewhat critical of manufacturers. :-) I'll move it when the original poster says it's okay. I think it will get more attention there. 73. Ed Hare, W1RFI |

| Forum Software Suggestions | WA3ZRM | on 13/8/11 |
I note that the Activtiy function now works and at least on the OS I'm using, the up/down arrows and cursor in the box used to create or edit posts seems to be working normally now. Some of the other suggestions will probably take a while to evaluate, as right now, the HQ staff is concentrating more on learning the ropes about forums in general. Some, especially me, are old denizens of the 'zed or even the old rec.radio.amateur groups. 73, Ed Hare, W1RFI ARRL Lab Technical forums moderator |
