Amsterdam Island FT5ZM DXpedition Expected On the Air January 25

01/24/2014

The Amsterdam Island FT5ZM DXpedition team is on the island, and word is that they be on the air January 25.

“It only took 50 trips to the island, but pretty much everything is ashore,” reported DXpedition pilot Valerie Hotzfeld, NV9L. “The first tower is up with a 12 meter Yagi.”

Team member Michel Brunelle, FM5CD, reported that at 2230 local time, the team finally was able to get a little sleep. They arrived earlier today after a relatively difficult crossing, with no real respite time on the boat,” he said, and got an “extremely friendly” welcome.

“QRV estimates suggest a time frame of between 1300 to 1900 UTC tomorrow [ie, January 25]; this info will be updated. For now the team sleeps in peace. Wish them good night and good luck for tomorrow!”

Located in the middle of the Indian Ocean, Amsterdam and St Paul Islands is the seventh most-wanted DXCC entity, according to Clublog. The ARRL has made a Colvin Award grant to help support the Amsterdam Island DXpedition. — Thanks to The Daily DX and FT5ZM
