ARISS Announces Live Video Feed of Contact with Russian Cosmonaut

07/13/2015

A live video feed is planned of an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact Wednesday, July 15, with members of the Vail Vaqueros 4H Club in Pima County, Arizona. The event will get under way in at Empire High School Auditorium in Tucson at approximately 18:01 UTC, and will be a direct contact via W7LB.

Cosmonaut Mikhail Kornienko, RN3BF, will speak with the students via RS0ISS on the space station. Keith Pugh, W5IU, is the ARISS technical mentor, coordinating the contact.

The Vail Vaqueros 4H Club sponsors the first 4H Amateur Radio project in Arizona. Six members are registered in the ham radio project, and all will be asking questions of Kornienko, who, with NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly, will spend 1 year on the space station. The Vail Vaqueros also offer robotics and rocketry projects, and one member from that project also will be among those posing questions during the contact. — Thanks to Debra Johnson, K1DMJ, ARRL Education Services Manager
