Cuban HF Emergency Net Stands Down

12/14/2014

A net on  7115 kHz that activated after torrential rainfall over Eastern Cuba has terminated operation. More than 15 inches of rain in a 24-hour period on December 11 and 12 over Baracoa in prompted activation of the Guantanamo FRC Provincial Emergency Net on December 12. IARU Region 2 Area C Emergency Coordinator Arnie Coro, CO2KK, has reported that the net closed down on December 13, after it was no longer necessary to provide a communication link for traffic between Baracoa City and the Guantanamo provincial capital.

“We want to thank all radio amateurs in Region 2 that helped to keep the frequency as clear as possible, making the emergency traffic flow at a reliable and faster rate,” Coro said.

Coro said local emergency traffic was handled on 2 meters.
