Kenwood Donates HF/6 Meter Transceiver to W1AW
Thanks to the generosity of Kenwood USA, W1AW, the Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Station, now boasts a new HF plus 6 meter transceiver -- the TS-590S. “Hams from all over the world come to operate at W1AW, the flagship station of Amateur Radio,” said ARRL Business Services Manager Debra Jahnke, K1DAJ. “We are delighted that Kenwood’s generosity makes it possible for visitors to W1AW to experience the latest in Kenwood’s line of Amateur Radio hardware.”
W1AW Station Manager Joe Carcia, NJ1Q, said he is excited to receive this new piece of equipment: “I really want to thank all the folks at Kenwood USA for donating this nifty rig to W1AW. I know those hams who make the trek here to Newington will be lining up to use this new radio. It will definitely be used a lot and I know our visitors will enjoy using it.” The TS-590S -- located in one of W1AW’s three operating suites -- will be available for guests to use when they visit the station.
QST Contributing Editor Ward Silver, N0AX, took a look at the Kenwood TS-590S HF and 6 meter transceiver in the May 2011 issue of QST. He called the rig “a compact package of high-performance radio with an exceptional receiver for the price and is well-suited for today’s operating modes and styles. It has a useful package of features that are thoughtfully organized and easy to access.” To read the rest of Silver’s review, please check out the May 2011 issue of QST.
