Michael Ossmann, AD0NR, to be Featured TAPR/AMSAT Dayton Dinner Speaker

05/01/2015

“Adventures of a Hacker Turned Ham” will be the topic of Michael Ossmann, AD0NR, when he keynotes the ninth annual TAPR/AMSAT Banquet, Friday, May 15, at 6 PM, in association with the 2015 Dayton Hamvention that weekend.

Ossmann grew up as a computer nerd embracing the hacker ethos, and he eventually became interested in the security of wireless systems, such as remote keyless entry, garage door openers, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. He designed Ubertooth One, a Bluetooth sniffer that was successfully funded on Kickstarter. He later designed and successfully funded HackRF One, an open-source SDR platform that attracted the attention of the Amateur Radio community.

His talk will focus on his perspective as an outsider looking in, why he resisted getting a license for years, and why he finally decided to join the Amateur Radio community.

Tickets are $35 and must be purchased online in advance. Visit the AMSAT Store. Tickets may be picked up at the AMSAT Hamvention booth (433-435 and 444-446). — Thanks to AMSAT News Service
