SEA-PAC Pioneer Al Berg, W7SIC, SK

One of the founding chairmen of SEA-PAC, Allan J. “Al” Berg, W7SIC, of Hillsboro, Oregon, died on July 22. He was 81 and had been suffering from cancer.

“Al was instrumental in assuring that SEA-PAC would be the premier Northwest ham convention and the ARRL Northwestern Division Convention,” said ARRL Oregon Section Manager Everett Curry, W6ABM. “He is credited with securing the ARRL National Convention in Portland, Oregon, in 1988.”

Berg served as an Assistant Director in the ARRL Northwestern Division. He was a founding member and past president of the Oregon Tualatin Valley Amateur Radio Club and served on its Board of Directors for more than 20 years. He also belonged to the Clark County Amateur Radio Club.

In addition to Amateur Radio, he enjoyed building radio-controlled model airplanes as well as outdoor activities.

Survivors include his wife Mary, N7TRW, and four adult children. A Celebration of Life will be held July 27, 3 PM, at Cedar Hills Baptist Church, 2470 SW Roxbury Avenue in Beaverton. -- Thanks to Everett Curry, W6ABM
