Amateur Radio emergency nets on 40 and 75 meters have activated in anticipation that Tropical Storm Otto may make landfall in Central America.

In Costa Rica a net is operational on 7080 kHz. In Nicaragua, National Emergency Net frequencies in use are 7098 kHz (7105 kHz alternate) and 3798 kHz (3805 kHz alternate).

The Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) continues to keep an eye on the progress of Tropical Storm Otto. When active, the HWN is on 14.325 MHz.

As of 1800 UTC, the National Hurricane Center was predicting that Otto would become a hurricane later on Tuesday. The storm was some 320 miles east-southeast of Bluefields, Nicaragua, and some 245 mile east of Limon, Costa Rico, with maximum sustained winds of 70 MPH. The storm is stationary.

A Hurricane Watch is in effect from the Costa Rica/Panama border to south of Bluefields. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Nargana to Colon. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for San Andres and from west of Colon to the Costa Rica/Panama border.
