IA Section News
June is bursting out all over!
Field Day is fast approaching, June 27 & 28. Is your Field Day location on the map? Visit http://www.arrl.org/contests/announcements/fd/locator.php.
Make sure to have your PIO send News Releases to local media. (Look for
the Amateur Radio Week proclamation from Iowa Governor Chet Culver below.)
It is with great pleasure to inform you that Linn County ARES has been
selected for a 2009 Iowa Governor's Volunteer Award for outstanding
contribution of volunteer service to the community. The nomination was
submitted by the Linn County Emergency Management Agency.
Congratulations Linn County ARES! Thanks KC0VTY & N0GUD for the
information.
Mike Vititoe, K0MDV informs us that the Tenth Region net will be on air again and they need traffic
rep's from each section, as well as NECOS's to cover all the nets.
For now the times and the freq of the tenth region net
will be at what it was before it stopped. They want a traffic rep from each section
to check-in for traffic. They are in need of
members who want to be a necos. Would like one from each section so we don't
fall into the same problem as before with one or two carrying the load for the
whole region. Please advise Mike of your nets both time and frequencies for his
records. Please put the word out on your nets and lets get the Tenth
Region back in operation. Also would like to find some rep's for some
digital traffic handling. Tenth Region Nets | 13:45 cdt 7277.5 cycle 1 7
days a week | 15:45 cdt 7277.5 cycle 2 7 days a week | Current NECOS:
KC0VTT or K0MDV. For more information contact Mike
Vititoe, Tenth Region Cycle 1&2 Net Manager, Ottumwa,
IA, 641-504-3365 or K0MDV@Winlink.org
Congratulations to the Jones County Amateur Radio Club as they
celebrate their 30th Anniversary on July 17th! Thanks for the
information, NN0L!

Whereas, the State recognizes the services Amateur Radio operators provide to our many emergency response organizations, including FEMA, DHS, and Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management; and
Whereas, these same individuals have further demonstrated their value in public assistance by providing free radio communications for local parades, bike-a-thons, walk-a-thons, fairs and other charitable public events; and
Whereas, the State of Iowa recognizes and appreciates the diligence of these "hams" who also serve as weather spotters in the SKYWARN program of the National Weather Service; and
Whereas, Amateur Radio once again proved its undisputed relevance in the modern world in 2005 by providing emergency communications when other systems failed in the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in the USA and in the tsunami catastrophe overseas; and
Whereas, these Amateur Radio services are provided wholly uncompensated; and
Whereas, the ARRL is the leading organization for Amateur Radio in the USA; and
Whereas, the ARRL Field Day exercise will take place on June 27-28, 2009 and is a 24-hour emergency encampment exercise and demonstration of the Radio Amateursâ(TM) skills and readiness to provide self-supporting communications even in fields without further infrastructure:
now, therefore, I, Chester J. Culver, Governor of the State of Iowa, do hereby proclaim the week of June 21-27, 2009 as Amateur Radio Week in Iowa. |
