Welcome to the North Dakota ARRL Section News for September 2009.

It is already October so I hope you can get your antenna work done before winter sets in. We have had a few North Dakota Ham’s passing away this month, so keep them in your thoughts. The ND QSO party is still on schedule for the 3rd weekend in March of 2010. If you have any input on this activity, send me an email at w0cq@arrl.org with your thoughts.

**** SEC Update ***** Dear Fellow North Dakota Hams: I have collected a number of ARES Registrations and requests for appointments for the jobs of Emergency Managers (EM) or District Emergency Coordinators (DEC). I encourage anyone interested to please forward your request! My goal is to have our basic North Dakota ARES Organization Plan in place by the end of 2009.

A couple of hams have asked about some basic ARES/EM/DEC training. This could be done at one of the upcoming North Dakota hamfest next year or by attendance at a special ham club meeting. Also, please email me if you are interested in me visiting your club or if you are interested in some training at a one of the hamfests next year.

The ARRL does have an on-line ARREC Level I course which includes a mentor to help you. I have taken ARECC I and II. You will find some of it focused towards areas with lots of hams, e.g., urban areas, but the information is still useful for hams interested in emergency amateur radio communications in our rural area...

Thanks and 73’s from Melissa, KD0AAK, ND Section Emergency Coordinator

**** Upcoming Events **** The Totten Trail Hamfest will be held on October 24th, 2009 from 9 AM until 2 PM at the Community Center in Garrison N.D. Garrison is only a few miles further and the date has been changed to a Saturday this year. Free flea market tables and a lot of eyeball QSO’s happen at this one!

**** September Net Report from Dave-K8BBM, ARRL ND Net Manager **** The Goose River Net on 160 Meters- 1.895 Mhz, Sundays at 8:30 AM CDT reported 4 Sessions, 45 Check-ins & 1 Message passed. The ND CDO/WX Road on 75 Meters- 3.937 Mhz, 8:30 AM CDT, Monday thru Sat reported 26 Sessions, 623 Check-ins & 5 Messages passed, and the DataNet on 75 Meters- 3.397 Mhz, 6:30 PM CDT, Daily reported 30 Sessions, 733 Check-ins & 8 Messages passed. On Monday, Nov 2, we start the second session of the CDO WX/Road Information Net at 12:30 PM central time. This net will meet twice daily, Monday through Saturday. All checkins are welcome.

CDO WX/ROAD NET - Net Control Ops - please let me know if you can take Net Control for the noon net on the days you do the early session.

ALL NET CONTROL OP’S – Please advise me about any upcoming snow bird absences or long trips if possible, so I can schedule someone else to be Net Control.

I was asked “HOW DOES TRAFFIC GO”, so I thought it would be good to explain what happens. Incoming traffic from other regions comes from the Central Area Traffic Net on 20 meters and is brought to the 10th Region Traffic Net on 40 m, 7275 kHz. This net meets daily at 10 AM and 3:45 PM to handle traffic around tenth region and beyond. Section representatives pick up traffic and bring it to area and section nets. Tenth region for traffic purposes covers IA, KS, MN, MO, ND, SD and Saskatchewan. You are invited to check into 10th region net anytime. Outgoing traffic is taken to 10th region and a liaison station takes it to the 20mtr net. Volunteers make it happen!! Thanks to all who help. 73’s from Dave, K8BBM

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE NORTH DAKOTA SECTION NEWS FOR THE LATEST NORTH DAKOTA BULLETINS AT www.arrl.org. If you have any special announcements, feel free to email me w0cq@arrl.org. Until next month… 73's Lynn - W0CQ
