    Monthly Summary for October 2009

News last updated: Tue, November 17, 2009 at 10:57 AM ET

Welcome to the North Dakota ARRL Section News for October 2009.

It is already November in North Dakota and the weather has been wonderful. No snow or cold weather for most of us with temperatures in the 40’s. Perfect weather for your antenna party! A new Net has just started on 3937 Khz on Saturday’s after the 12:30 PM WX Net! Bill, N0CKB from Minot had an idea of getting hams together to share stories and experiences of their old equipment and to put that equipment ON-THE-AIR. He is hosting the net to be called the “Boat Anchor Net”. Check in with your vintage equipment and show off your signal quality!

**** SEC Update ***** We are still compiling our list and finalizing our initial plan for the ARES Services in North Dakota. For those of you interested in continuing with some emergency training, I recommend you take ARRL’s online Emcomm I course. ARRL does recommend that all ARES members take this training. If you have any questions during this training, I'd be happy to share my experiences when I took the training. You will also be assigned an on-line experienced mentor to whom you will submit your assignments and get assisted help. For Now… Thanks and 73’s from Melissa, KD0AAK, ND Section Emergency Coordinator

**** Upcoming Events **** The Bismarck Hamfest will be held on February 27, 2010 from 7 AM until 3 PM at St. Marys Grade School in Bismarck. There will be an ARRL Forum and we are surveying the interest in having some ARES Training during this Hamfest. (Let us Know)... The North Dakota QSO Party will be held on March 20th & 21st, 2010 and is planned to be a full 24 hour contest. If you have any input on this activity, send me an email at w0cq@arrl.org with your thoughts. This is a great time to get your WAS or help others out with North Dakota, including a lot of DX trying to work ND. Stay tuned for the rules on the website of W0CQ.COM.

**** October Net Report **** The Goose River Net on 160 Meters- 1.895 Mhz, Sundays at 8:30 AM CST reported 4 Sessions, 51 Check-ins & 2 Message passed. The ND CDO/WX Road Net on 75 Meters- 3.937 Mhz, 8:30 AM CST & 12:30 PM CST, Monday thru Sat reported 27 Sessions, 678 Check-ins & 9 Messages passed, and the DataNet on 75 Meters- 3.397 Mhz, 5:30 PM CST, Daily reported 31 Sessions, 880 Check-ins & 13 Messages passed. ALL NET CONTROL OP’S – Please advise me about any upcoming snow bird absences or long trips if possible, so I can schedule someone else to be Net Control. 73’s from Dave, K8BBM, ARRL ND Net Manager

**** Section Managers Notes **** The list of ND check-ins with locations and names for the ND nets and the Net Control preambles are available for printing in a pdf file on W0CQ.COM. The ARRL has sent out congratulations this month to the Souris Valley Amateur Radio Club (SVARC) for being an official radio club in existence for 50 years!

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE NORTH DAKOTA SECTION NEWS FOR THE LATEST NORTH DAKOTA BULLETINS AT www.arrl.org. If you have any special announcements, feel free to email me w0cq@arrl.org. Until next month… 73's Lynn - W0CQ
