CQ CQ,
With the recent earthquake in Hati there are several HF nets that have been activated to attempt to gather information and pass H&W traffic. Reports though are that little contact is being heard.
Lou Everett, WA5LOU is having some health issues. Please wish him a quick recovery if you should hear them on the nets. We were saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Terry Mckee,KD5AWZ, of an apparent heart attack. I am told Terry happily stepped up to the plate to serve the emergency communications needs of his community and the greater Galveston/Houston area.
New Appointments:
I would like to thank and congratulate these new appointees in the Section. They are;
Rodger Podsim, KD5OTH for assuming the Net Manager position for the Daytime Texas Traffic Net.

Club News:
Tom , N5TW, and I had the great pleasure of attending the Northwest Amateur Radio Society (NARS) award banquet on Friday evening. We had a good time and, I hope, made a lot of new friends. We hope to be invited back next year!
San Antonio area: Lothar, K5LEH reports that The HAM community came together again this year to support the Bandera 100K Trail Run, Jan 9-10. This run is held in the Hill Country State Natural Area. The HAM mission was to provide communications between aid stations and the race officials. Hams were on foot, horseback and ATV as well as in fixed locations. During the course of the event, several stations reported runner status via packet radio which was a first for this event. This annual event relies heavily on the HAM community and their professionalism to ensure participant safety and provide logistics information via the only reliable communications media out there - HAM radio. The person that brings it all together each year is Louis Upton,K1STX and this event is supported primarily by members of ARES, SKYWARN and REACT.
Shuttle Columbia Special Event Station:
The Nacogdoches Amateur Radio Club will again hold a special event station in remembrance of the shuttle disaster on Feb. 1, 2003. The event will occur on Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010. Ham operators from other areas are welcome to attend the event. If you cannot come to Nacogdoches, we would like to hear from you on 20 or 40 meters. Operation will begin at 0800 CST (1400 UTC) and end at 1500 CST (2100 UTC). For additional information, please contact Rusty Sanders,kd5gen@arrl.net
