    New Years Greetings Wyoming Ham's

    This month finds a lot of thing going on. On Tuesday (January 12) there was a 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti, which has since been followed by serious aftershocks. Communications in and out of Haiti have been disrupted. Amateur Radio operators are circled around Haiti in Cuba, Florida, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and other locations listening for any calls, but so far no HH stations had checked in.

    Please keep clear of frequencies : 14265 7045 7265 3977 3720

    The situation is still chaotic and more information will be posted as soon as possible. Information is being validated and shared between many amateur groups and news sources as it unfolds.

    The Carey Junior High School Amateur Radio Club, KC7OEK, is conducting a fundraiser for the earthquake victims in Haiti. The goal is to collect one dollar from each student and faculty member at Carey Junior High School and send the proceeds to the American Red Cross. We hope to collect over $1,200.00 dollars. Amateur operators, 7th grader, Christian Borgaard, KF7FYD, 8th grader, Nicholas Casner, KF7CJY, 7th grader, Cole Smith, KF7FXW and 8th grader, Lois Rachocki, KF7GAZ are coordinating the efforts at Carey Junior High School.

    ===== Rocky Mountain Division Awards -- Call for Nominations =====

    There are many hams within our great Division who deserve to be recognized for their achievements -- and we'd like to honor them. The following annual awards are now being offered by the Division:

    Rocky Mountain Division Ham of the Year Award Rocky Mountain Division Young Ham of the Year Award Rocky Mountain Division Technical Achievement Award

    ===== 2010 Rocky Mountain Division Convention...save the date! =====

    The 2010 Rocky Mountain Division Convention will take place Memorial Day weekend (May 28-30, 2010) at the newly renovated 302-room Platte River Resort in Casper, Wyoming.

    The Northeast Wyoming ARC is hard at work planning a great event for you. Not only will there be a ton of ham radio activities happening at the Convention, but there will be plenty to do on the side with the family as well...such as flyfishing the North Platte River, shopping, and other wonderful attractions. It'll be a great trip to make, no matter where you're from.

    Please save the date and consider enjoying your Memorial Day weekend with hams from across the Division and surrounding states. More details will appear at http://www.rockymoutainhamcon.org/ as planning progresses.

    ARRL Board Elects 15th President: Kay Craigie, N3KN (Jan 16, 2010) -- As its first order of business at the 2010 Annual Meeting, the ARRL Board of Directors elected ARRL First Vice President Kay Craigie, N3KN, of Blacksburg, Virginia, as the organization's new President. She will take over the reins from outgoing President Joel Harrison, W5ZN, at the close of the Annual Meeting. In October, Harrison advised the Board that he would not seek re-election.
