    Dallas County Transmitter Hunt
As to bring new events in the North Texas Section, the Ham Association of Mesquite is hosting a Dallas County Transmitter Hunt on July 11th, 2009 at 10:00 am. This event is a two-stage fox or transmitter hunt with the first one for beginners and the second one for more advanced. You have to find the first one to get the frequency of the second one. The second one will not be turned on until the first person finds the first one so no leap frogging. The rules are simple, find the two foxes with whatever means you want. Everybody starts at the same time wherever they want to start and can work individually or as teams. Body shadowing, Doppler units, triangulation, etc. it is all legal. The first stage will be a simple 5 watt continuous-on fox located in a public place in Dallas county. No bush whacking, no private property, no poison ivy. You will be able to walk right up to it and find it. Remember Dallas County is a big place so teams would really be beneficial. Once you find the first fox, you will given a card with the frequency of the second fox and it won't be turned on until the first person or team find the first unit. This one will be a little more difficult but will still be on public property and able to walk right up to it legally. All foxes will be on 2 meter FM and 5 watt output on the transmitter. You are more than welcome to recruit base and mobile stations to help by providing signal strength reports. The first stage frequency will be 146.310 MHz and support will be provided on the WJ5J repeater (145.310 -- offset, 162.2 tone) or AK5DX repeater (442.625 + offset, 110.9 tone). Get your teams together and your equipment ready, this one is going to fun. Let's go fox hunting!!!
