As it flew over the Illfurth region in the Haut-Rhin department of France, the aircraft was shot down, crashing to the ground in a blaze of metal and flames. The exact causes of this accident remain unclear, but it is likely that the plane fell victim to German anti-aircraft defenses or an enemy fighter attack. https://www.qrz.com/db/TM44LIB
