Observance of National POW MIA Recognition Day are held across this country on the third Friday in September each year. This year it will be on September 17. This will be the 13th year the special event station has been activated. The day was established to honor our prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action. There will be sister stations K4MIA/1, K4MIA/5 K4MIA/7 and K4MIA/8 in operation. Days listed above are primary operational days and modes will operate SSB, CW, FT8 and Satellite operation. Throughout the month of Sept., K4MIA will hopefully try EME, Microwave and other less used digital modes. See QRZ for additional information and a copy of this year’s QSL card. There will be 21 stations — two of them “rovers” — operating in or around the major cities along Route 66 from Santa Monica, California to Chicago, Illinois. HRAC will be at Memorial Lake State Park commemorating the 20th Anniversary of 9/11/2001. It will also be a Parks On The Air (POTA) activation (POTA# K-1384). We will be operating with the W3M Special Event call sign. Memorial Lake State Park is located within the Fort Indiantown Gap National Guard Training Site. Fort Indiantown Gap has been a key installation for the Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard for more than 90 years. Memorial Lake was established in 1945 in memory and honor of Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers who served in World War I and World War II. In 1955, Memorial Lake was transferred to the Department of Forest and Waters, now the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and became Memorial Lake State Park. We thought it a fitting location to commemorate the 20th anniversary of 9/11/2001.
