Basic Information

Success through Teamwork

Working together for the good of all Amateurs has been the policy in the Section since the election of a new Section Manager in 2016.  The goal was, and continues to be, making Amateur Radio more FUN for everyone.

Section ARRL Appointments were reviewed over the last two years and the Section Cabinet now consists of active and capable leaders working to insure that all interested Amateurs have a role to play in the operation of the Section.  The Section Roster available on the Section Website [ ] lists all of the active Appointments.

The strong public service teams have been enhanced to better work with and serve the agencies interested in utilizing our services.  Distribution of information on Club activitiess, contests, and other events has been enhanced by leadership utilization of the ARRLSB email reflector.  There has been an increased emphasis on communications between members.  The involvement of every Amateur in the Section is desired and is being welcomed.

A social media presence (@ARRLSB and #ARRLSB) was developed on Facebook and Twitter to improve our communications with the younger generarions that might be interested in Amateur Radio.

The Santa Barbara Section eMail Reflector mentioned above plays a big part in the effort to improve communications within the Section.  All Amateurs in the Section are encouraged to subscribe to this service.

The Santa Barbara Section consists of the California coastal counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.  It is part of the Southwestern Division and is bounded by the Santa Clara Section to the North, the San Joaquin Valley Section to the East,  and the Los Angeles Section to the South.  There are approximately 1100 ARRL Members in the Section but we are actively working on growing that number.

James T Fortney, K6IYK, has served as Section Manager (SM) for 2016-2017.  Jim is relocating to Arizona and is not eligible for re-election, but will serve as SM until his replacement is elected or appointed.  The ARRL has announced that nominating petitions for this position will be accepted until March 9, 2018.  Additional information is available in QST.
