Meet the Authors at ARRL EXPO in Dayton

05/07/2013

The ARRL will present a “Meet the Author” area in the ARRL EXPO at the 2013 Dayton Hamvention®, giving visitors an opportunity to speak with authors who are inspiring today’s radio experimenters, operators and innovators.

Three authors will be in the ARRL EXPO area:

  • Leigh Klotz Jr, WA5ZNU, lead editor of Ham Radio for Arduino and PICAXE. Klotz and other contributors have designed projects to help introduce you to the fun and rewards of experimenting with microcontrollers. With inexpensive microcontroller platforms -- such as the popular open-source Arduino board -- readily available parts, components and accessory boards, the possibilities are limitless: The book offers projects, with code, for beacon transmitters, keyers, antenna position controllers, RTTY and digital mode decoders, waterfall displays and more.
  • Eric P. Nichols, KL7AJ, author of Radio Science for the Radio Amateur. Nichols guides readers through some of the most fascinating “nooks and crannies” of the radio universe. Find out how to make a meaningful contribution to science and technology as a ham radio operator, regardless of your experience and resources.
  • Don Keith, N4KC, author of Riding the Shortwaves: Exploring the Magic of Amateur Radio. This book is filled with dozens of reasons to join the ranks of Amateur Radio enthusiasts. Keith’s entertaining and informative style presents today’s ham radio as bigger and more vibrant than ever as he focuses on digital communications, software-defined and computer controlled radios, space technology and more.

Books will be available for purchase within the ARRL EXPO area for the authors to sign. In addition to the “Meet the Authors” area, the ARRL EXPO will include a wide variety of exhibits and activities from the ARRL, including an exhibit commemorating the 75th anniversary of W1AW featuring photographs of the station from over the years; QSL card checking; the opportunity to have your handheld transceiver checked for spurious emissions; youth activities, and more.

The ARRL EXPO -- located in the Ballarena Hall (near the 400-numbered booths) of Hara Arena -- will include more than 20 exhibits. Visit the ARRL Hamvention web page for a complete list of ARRL EXPO programs, activities and presentations, as well as a floor plan of all the exhibits.
