Formed in 1978 the Holmesburg Amateur Radio Club has been known for its great repeater coverage of Philadelphia. For those familiar with Philadelphia, they know that the City's founder William Penn overlooks the City from City Hall. Now thanks to HARC, his "voice" is heard on the air when Club members are on the air with the Club Call - WM3PEN.
H.A.R.C. is a multi-faceted group of Hams from all walks of life. Members have a wide and varying interest in the hobby. The club sponsors classes for code, theory, and also CW practice on the repeater each week. We have also taught classes for students enrolled in the Lincoln High School Air Force jrROTC. Each month we have an informative program and try to devote one or two nights to building projects. We built a 2 meter Suction Cup dipole for use for emergency communications when the windows can't be opened. We also built all of our Field Day dipoles during a meeting.

These projects are important in the spirit of being an Elmer. The club provides communications during various public service events and for emergency agencies when called upon. Each year we provide communications for the Mayfair/Holmesburg Thanksgiving parade. In recent years this has become the second largest parade in Philadelphia. The Club also just received a plaque from the March of Dimes for service during the 2000 Walk America. Over the years HARC has provided communications for various marathons, bike races, parades, and the 1980 Winter Olympic Torch Run. Club President Bob Josuweit, WA3PZO, was a member of the Olympic Torch Relay Team. This year we extended an offer to hams who are members of the news media coming to town to report on the Republican National Convention. The Club certainly extends a welcome to visitors coming to see the historic area of Philadelphia and the rest of the region.
Coming to the area on business or for a visit you're welcome on the Club's repeater on 146.685.
