Here is the latest Section Update.
Greetings to the Delaware Section,
HAMFEST & CONVENTION
The new date for the (“storm-cancelled”) Delmarva Hamfest and Delaware State ARRL Convention is April 16. Make plans now to be part of this great event. For information contact Vic Gumper KC3BUI at 302-628-3060 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Please take a couple of minutes to check out an excellent video about the legislation at www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMY-5U1cJ6E This short program will give you the information to fully understand the legislation and the “arguments” that support our case. If you have not sent letters to Senators Carper and Coons, go to www.arrl.org/amateur-radio-parity-act for a letter template. I’ll continue to bring letters to the club meetings so you can fill yours out there.
Sussex County ARES will conduct a weekend Technician Class on December 5 and 6 at Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown. Contact Dell Palmer K3AXR email@example.com for more information and to register for the class.
MILITARY AUXILIARY RADIO SYSTEM (MARS) COMMUNICATIONS EXERCISE
MARS will be conducting a communications exercise during the week on November 7 – 10. During the COMEX MARS operators will attempt to make contact with Amateurs and ask for the status of local conditions such as weather and infrastructure availability. The primary means of contacting us will be during the Delaware Traffic Net and the DELMARVA Emergency Net. If you are contacted by MARS during the COMEX, they ask that you respond with actual conditions on weather and infrastructure status .
SIMULATED EMERGENCY TEST (SET)
Thanks very much to all of you who participated in the SET. Stations were on the air from numerous locations including EOCs, hospitals, fire stations, State Police, and the Delaware Emergency Management Agency. In addition, many of you operated from home and from mobile units throughout the state. A detailed report is being developed and more information will be provided in a future Section Update.
A homeowner near Laurel wants to have three Amateur Radio towers removed from his property. These towers range from 75 to about 90 feet and include a variety of V/UHF antennas. All three towers with antennas are available free for the taking, however; they must be taken down. The homeowner specifies that they be taken down by an insured party, as all of the towers are very close to the house and he is concerned about potential damage during removal. If you are interested, contact me for more information. Go to the ARRL Delaware web site for some pictures. www.arrl.org/sections/view/delaware Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Take a look at the photos taken at Field Day and other events.
