2020 ARRL Kids Day - January
Kid's Day June soapbox
I helped my grandson, Luke Harrison, to participate in the Kid's day event. We did not find any participants taking part in Kid's Day but Luke did have a positive experience. He called CQ for about 45 minutes on 20 meters at 14290. We tried for a few minutes on each of the other bands but could not get anyone to respond.,Finally, we did get V31EC (Eric) in Belize to respond on 20 meters. He gave Luke a 59 report and he returned a 59 as well as he was quite readable. We tried some more CQ ing but did not get anyone to respond. Luke became bored with not getting anyone to respond to his CQ and wanted to stop. Then, I got on the radio and searched on the 20 meter band. I found K8IS participating in the WV qso party. Luke got back on the radio and reponded with my call sign to David (K8IS) and he gave Luke a 59 Worth county and Luke responded with a 59 Florida. I got on the radio and thanked David for his response. This was a great experience for my grandson and I hope to do it again with him. Thank you for having the event. Somehow I hope we can come up with some more incentives for young people to get on the ham bands to participate in Kid's Day next year.
