2023 ARRL Field Day

07/18/2023 | W6TOI

Field Day 2023 was the most sucessful Field Day we have had in years. Our local fire department allowed us to set up at their training center which features a 5 story tower. This made for an excellant base for mounting tempoary antennas. We had several guests including a licensed Ham from Scotland, We allowed her to operate and being female she helped generate several contacts for out log and resparked her interest in Ham Radio.

My 10 year old Granddaughter Jessie Leach stopped by with her Brother William and introduced her to how to call CQ and the exchange on Field Day. After she made a half dozen contacts she was hooked and asked it she could do more. We moved to the 6 meter station where her first contact was with Oregeon. She is now planning on studying for her own license and looks forward to the next event where she can get on the air under my supervision. Her brother William was interested but a little to shy to get on ther air.

In the attached photos are Jessie, William and myself working the VHF station and there is a photo of Battalion Chief Browne from the City of Downey Fire Department standing in front of their newly aquired communications truck. It was very impressive and would make any Ham jealous.
