2004 ARRL September VHF Contest
I operated in the hi power single operater section on...2,,,6,,,222 & 432... My 1296 setup was not working...
I decided to take 2 weeks of vacation just to get ready for this contest ..First I threw away the honey-do list & then I went to work putting the finishing touches on my new 2 meter array, ( 8 - 11 element yagi's ) plus I went over the 6/222/432 setup to make sure Murphy didn't show up...All 4 bands worked perfectly.... It was really nice running hi-power this time... Got quite a few compliments on my big signal.... I know the rovers noticed....
My next step is to fix 1296 and add 100 watts & then add 903....
The hat trick goes to 6 meters for lack of any desent propagation during this contest for the last three
years from my qth... ( nope.. no magic this time ) -( )-
Saturday::::: What a beautiful day.....Sunshine & 85 degrees....2 ,,,222,,,432,,,were great out 400+ miles in all directions...even 6 meters at times... I spent most of my time on 2 & 432 locating the rovers & running the bands...This turned out to be quite the task with all the rovers plus all the base stations.... ( never a dull moment )...Before I knew it ,,,, it was after midnight....I had planned on calling it a night around 1 am. as that seemed to be when everything usually slows down ... Not this time... Several stations I hadn't worked were still on , plus a few of the rovers were just getting to their last grid sq for the night... ( new multiplier ) I couldn't pass that up.... At 3:30 I called it a night...
Sunday:::: Another beautiful day... Mirror image of Saturday...Band conditions on the lower 4 seemed to be the same as on Saturday also... It was another day of working the rovers & remaining base stations...The time flew by so fast before I knew it the contest was over... The end of every contest is unique....Its always exciting working a new grid on all bands in the last minute..... I would have to say this was the best one all year from my qth,,,even without any 6 meter prop...
The Wrap up :::: It was great to hear so much activity... Lots of rovers!!! I noticed some have been working away adding more bands,,,more amps,,, & more antennas.... Keep it up !!!! Plus its also nice to run into 1st timers to contesting,,, the more the better,,, Thanks everyone... >(ֿ< <~Look for me in January..... Dan ~()~ -- N
