12/01/2004 | KS0P Have you ever worked a multi single station in the November SSB Sweepstakes that was ALL girls? Well, that's us. Some call us inseperable when it comes to contesting. Some call us K Squared - Kathryn (KS0P) and Kristin (KC0INX)- this year we could be heard as KS0P. Oh and one other little detail I'm only 16 and Kathryn is only 17. This was my 5th year and Kathryn's 3rd year working sweeps. We belong to a ham radio club for kids called BARC jr. This was the first year that we were not working Sweeps with the boys, instead we were competing against them to see who could get the most contacts and the highest score. We even managed to work the boys who were using K0DE as their call at about 7:30 am Sunday morning. That was pretty cool.
This was also an opportunity for Kathryn and me to elmer a younger BARC jr. girl. Lauren is 13 years old and this was the first "real" contest she had ever been involved in. She operated as much as she wanted to and got a good taste of logging for someone calling CQ with a pileup. It is a tough task to accomplish when all of this contesting stuff is new to you, but she was a good sport throughout all of it, and she learned a lot.
We had a great time (as usual) and we are definately going to operate again next year, so look for us. Oh, and if we worked you this year, THANKS for the contact and multipliers! We hope to talk to you again next year! By the way we made 969 contacts with a clean sweep.
