Had a great time during this years SKN. Shally, K6VHP carefully restored a Harvey Wells TBS-50C transmitter and built a slick custom power supply for the rig. I've been eyeballing this rig since 1995 when I first visited Shally's "Radio Ranch." As luck wouldn't have it, I was unable to get the rig to load--turned out to be my mistake while adding a variable capacitor in the transmission line! I turned to my Kenwood rig and dialed around 40, 80, and 160 meters. I was amazed to work KH6ZM, Messimo, in Hawaii on 160!
My SKN fist vote goes to Greg, KG4MMY--this ops fist is as smooth as a polished diamond!
Christipher, KD7REM, informed me that I was the last QSO of 2004 and the first QSO for 2005 while we chatted on 80 meters.
Had a great time and can't wait until next years SKN. Hopefully, I'll get another chance to operate the TBS-50 later this year--can't wait to call CQ while crystal controlled!
