2005 ARRL Straight Key Night

01/05/2005 | WA5VQM After being QRT for about a decade and only becoming active again about a month ago what a wonderful re-introduction to the joys of ham radio! For the occasion it was a J-38 acquired over 30 years ago keying a recently resurrected Heath DX-40 and Hallicrafters SX-111.

Ten great QSOs in all averaging a half hour each. The quality of the QSOs were all top-notch. I worked new rigs, old rigs, QRP rigs, stations as far away as Connecticut (W1AW my first SKN QSO!) and California, to as close as the other side of town.

Saturday morning I headed up to 20 meters with a Hallicrafters HT-37 / SX-111 combo using the "dah" half of a 50's vintage Vibroplex. By Saturday afternoon I thought my hand was about to fall off!

I had a great time. Why do we have to wait another year for the next one? Why not one in June?
