2005 ARRL Straight Key Night
SKN 2005 with a fine, hand-crafted, hardwood-and-brass key. However, the unembellished truth is more interesting --- and just as much fun.
The Discovery Place Museum in Charlotte, NC has an Amateur Radio Education program with volunteer operators manning a well equipped station. One of their children's activities is to make a simple telegraph key from a clothes pin. This clever idea has the potential to capture the imagination of Amateur Radio's next generation. They can 'see' how it works.
It appeals to me because it demonstrates the type of resourcefulness that hams ought to develop. This is the mode I chose for SKN, and just as I had expected, it was lots of fun.
For the record . . . I actually did work SKN 2005 with a fine, hand-crafted, hardwood-and-brass key.
