2005 ARRL January VHF Sweepstakes

01/24/2005 | K3UHF/R Had fun, worked over 500 qsos from 100's of people in 60 plus grids/bands. I travelled about 800 and 11 grids miles during the contest and another 300 to get there and back. There was a great turn out in the Portland area with perhaps more operators than the Seattle area. Longest qso was cn86/82 on 2/222/432 or cn76 to dn07 on 2 meters. Band conditions seemed poor on saturday until the evening.

Wx was warm and friendly and I had 2 eyeballs with 2 other rovers. I only got lost once and had to rebuild the rack once.

I did not plan onclimbing any major mountains so I brought no maps after all it was january!

In the end I met my goal ofover 500 qsos with no more than 10% comingfrom any particular station. However other rovers were handy in providing otherwise unavailable grid squares to me.

Rigs 736 x 2 all 5 bands plus one 903 mhz dem transverter.
te 400w on 2 and 6 meters
te 200 w on 432
mirage 120 w on 222
5-10 watts on 1.2 and 903

lots of beams
will build aluininum rack next. -- K3UHF
